    Rapid Gator is useless…

I just bought an account. for a month. It’s working fine

I just bought a DF account. It, too, is working fine. I like this system of paying for music, reminds me of the old days. If only the artist saw some of it, it would be perfect.

That’s my issue with it. I don’t mind paying for music, but I know not a single cent is going to the artist or record label. If I’m going to pay money, I’d like it to go the artist.

Maybe I’ll reevaluate that stance, because waiting a full 24 hours to download a file from Rapid Gator is sort of ridiculous.

i’m in agreement with this here

Liedgut was fantastic. Uwe Schmidt is a phenom. Cheers.

and nodata receives money everytime someone pays for a download account right (affiliate program)? why else do they run this website u think…

    • Bing April 24, 2012

Yes, and nodata deserve something for their work, though it can’t be fortunes I guess it covers hosting charges and other basic costs. What nodata receives will be small change compared to what Deposit Files and the rest make from selling their registrations. So here we are, enjoying all this (cheap if not free) music, nodata website pays for itself, and the file hosts … well, they’re raking it in. The last group are so much like the bad old corporate villains that nodata and its fans wanted to smash (I remember that manifesto) – and pretty much have done by now. And yet, still, the artists are not included in the share-out!

This is such a good system, browsing a catalogue of music and trying new things. I have bought direct from artists’ websites as a result of discovering things here, but mostly not. As a paying subscriber to file hosts I feel I am “paying for music” that way, and that’s where the cut for the artists should be taken. Will a maverick file host appear that somehow solves the issue of how to justly reward artists? Is it too intractable a problem?

    A maverick host, good idea.
Yet consider that the artist does “see a cent” via, well, fame.
At several “posh” parties I attended in New York, it was only trailblazing internet bands playing through the speakers.
Also, I have seen 37 band that were first blog posts. From Little Dragon to Benoit Pouilard to Grimes.
They all got a cut of my ticket.
Consider also, in this digital age how easy it is to make one sequestered recording after another. Now: touring is profitable for everyone… and thats fun for everyone!
