This is like the most generic bland indie rock album I have ever heard, well that new Surfer Blood album was similar. At least Arcade Fire changed it up and put out that disco album, god, guitar music can be so boring.
I can’t say I’ve cared much for CN’s oeuvre after his debut collection when it got increasingly pop-punk and emo-ey sounding; however, none of those albums were as profoundly disappointing as AF’s Reflektor, which I’ve played through maybe once.
Ok, I guess what I’m trying to understand is the kind of person who is actually excited to hear an album like this, the kind of person who downloads and eagerly cranks it during their commute, enjoying it thoroughly. This is like the kind of music you tolerate in the background when you try get drunk at some new “bohemian” bar that a failed Goldman Sachs guy opened after he got laid off in the crash, grew a beard and decided “investment banking just wasn’t something he wanted to do”, and so used his last pre-crash bonus to buy a building in the “up and coming” part of town and open a bar in the commercial space in the first floor.
One of the “benefits” of illiteracy is the dull sense of contentment which some even equate to (gasp) happiness. These folks like Mr. the God ^, even dish out awards in their futile hope of belonging. It’s not too late to pick up a book or listen to good music though, even Socrates (back in 399 BC) said an unexamined life is not worth living.
Oh, nodata people, you guys are so edgy, dear fucking lord.
Everything that is not a an empty dull electronic ambient thing or the 100000 time that some german or belgian dude release a techno track gets all the worse in your modern minds….
In 1964 John Lennon said that in the near future, musicians will be playing ‘Thing-a-m-bobs” not guitars. That day came and left and the guitar is still around. A world without music is a colorless grey (except for that color) pit. It is good to take a break from it though, or try different styles of music, or make your own. Not a bad idea reading a book if you can find one that you can tolerate.

Different strokes for different folks my pretentious friend, not everyone is as enamored with beat drops and autotuned vocals as some.
That clique of Australian dudes around Tame Impala show guitar music doesn’t have to suck, but most does.

Hi
