Guys, let’s read: “His early career was characterised by an interest in techno, expressed under the Jetone moniker. Disenchanted with this direction, Hecker began exploring more abstract notions of sound and collages, describing this process as ‘very brutal, bloody, bone-crushing experiences’. His current method of working involves the use of pipe organ sounds which are digitally processed and distorted”
Somehow I had no idea this was coming.
Thank you mondo cigaretto, the deck was in need of clearing with regards to Tim’s immersion into an experimental/ambient vibe. Personally I prefer the ambient genre, beginning with Brian Eno’s recordings early on, but I could never catch the wave of techno, where beats pound and the arrangements are repetitive as required by this category of music. I do like electronic hip-hop (Shabazz Palaces) but I cannot catch the wave of techno. I live in L.A., at night I hear the pounding thump of techno streaming from white Mercedes Benz’s driving home from the local club scene. Why did Hecker find it so difficult to make this transition?
Lol you got it wrong, it wasn’t difficult at all.. and if you know that Jetone album, you would hear his passage was quite easy and natural.
My spider sense tells me you are not a troll :
Check “The Black Lodge” nights in LA .@ the super small Hyperion Tavern or events by Droid taking place in different clubs.
Usually the stuff you heard playing in huge clubs where there are white Mercedes Benz is not techno – it’s gross commercial electronic dance music…
Wait until you are 21 an then go have fun (it was supposed to rhyme but i’m a european citizen, we don’t have that skill)
T.Y. Peak for exploring the L.A. scene, check it out dos def. Not a Troll, and I will grow up someday (emotionally that is) and then blossom spiritually. In the meantime I’m stuck inside a loop. I dig ORB, I think they hit a nice blend of beats and Synths washing over, good band.
you seem fairly clueless tbh
that’s probably house music streaming home from the clubs
hell yes gunna rage hard toniiitee
I haven’t had a surprise better than this than the time I forgot I didn’t pee and realized I had to pee on my way to the grocery store!
You might like the Live Leak Instrumental (track 4)
hahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaa!
4AD? 60% chance this is boring indie machine poo, but we’ll see.
good betting spread — better than arca anyway
I will cast my vote on this a little later today.
Less talk, more action, dear chatters.
This is work of genious.
Who gives a fuck about 4AD.
And now let loose the haters.
Well, for starters, you can’t spell.
grammar nazi anyone?
“Grammar” refers to the set of rules governing the sentence structure of a language. G criticized your spelling, not your syntax.
Hahahaha! Great fucking comments.
“The album features Kara-Lis Coverdale and Grímur Helgason, the same collaborators who worked on Virgins, plus the Icelandic Choir Ensemble. The vocal arrangements were scored by Oscar-nominated composer Jóhann Jóhannsson. ” (Pitchfork).
Sounds promising.
yuo arre raight, mi fraind. escuse mi.
step yr pedantry game up, homeboy
Fucking hell this was only announced yesterday, feel bad for the guy
This is boring. All the orchestras and oscar nominated arrangers can’t save it from the deep cold sea rock-bottom where it should stay.
hecker? I hardly knew her!!!
*ba dum tss*
very disappointing release after so many great ones.
i saw T.H. at EMPAC in Troy, NY in november … super fog … super loud … with girls wandering around murmuring into mics while in the crowd. very interesting, transporting. this, seems … flat. emotionless.
I have to agree with the other disappointed listeners. This sounds a bit ‘meh’ to me, unfocused and meandering without any great emotional weight.
Quality of the download is ugly. Thank you nodal for this preview but be warned about the shit quality of audio file.
Best thing he’s done in ages (although, the collab with OPN was pretty spot on). And the quality of the 320 is fine, actually. Surprised at all of the negative slants coming through on this. Beauty rec.
Look at the size of the file (98Mb). It can’t be good quality. Came on.
Love his early stuff, but I’m going to let Anthony Fantano decide if I like this. I’m lost.
Thank you. I am the all-seer of art. I am Fantano. I am he who decides. About Good and Evil. Right and Wrong. And Techno and Experimental. Do not be duped by the merchants of slug.
Follow Fantano.
Follow Truth.
No.
thank u!
Really digging the Castratti Stack number (track #8) It really hits a raw nerve. But it’s so soothing though.
I so agree!
links down. the love stream has run dry
The links just couldn’t survive. There was no life force behind them so they just withered away and died. To sustain life, there must be emotion.
Alternatively, you can also turn on the vacuum cleaner, the TV, the kettle and open your windows and experience the same type of ambience. Voila, you’ve just unlocked the secret of ambient music. Experiment with more appliances and substrates and you’re nearly there. But whatever you do, don’t actually ever go near a musical theory book EVER!
What the hell you talking about, ambient music is closest to classical music by the complexity. But your hearing is washed with techno beats and you can not understand it. if some kind of music does not implement musical theory, it is techno. Techno is poorest music ever. So do not insult something that you’re not able to cope with a listening.
lol
Sorry can’t hear you. Vacuum’s on.
Of course you can’t hear me, silly me.
“ambient music is closest to classical music by the complexity”: One of the most hilarious quotes I’ve read in a while and certainly the crowning jewel in this thread.
Dissing techno is the telling sign error of subjects who are mired in obsolescence and cannot assess a genre of music that doesn’t fir their limited scope.
Sorry, but how do you know that I do not listen to techno. If I said that techno by musical criteria is the most miserable, it does not mean that I do not listen. It is only an objective comparison. Actually techno which has a tinge of ambient music, and vice versa, is something that I like most. So your argument sucks.
