Saw Autechre live back in 2005 at the Trocadero in Philly. Was blown away. Completely freestyled/improvised set, no album tracks. Listened to the first batch of these, AE going harder on these live sets than on their own albums! Some real brilliant, mesmerizing, and just game changing moments from Sean and Rob.
Good point. Not really anything they can do that’s “game changing” anymore. especially afterl LP5 and EP7. They’ve manage to supercedde themselves over their last couple of offerings but it’s more organized and cohesive than their 2003-2008 output. TBH
BTW, I notice these sets are similar in parts in lieu with a theme but different in other parts.
I think they’re kind of extending the idea of a flexible set of ideas, sounds, algorithms etc. into live performance, so each performance is like an interpretation or extrapolation of some of those ideas in a different way… So instead of the idea of a ‘finished tune’, and then maybe remixes of it, or even several versions of the same tune, they’re producing long ‘example interactions’ of various core ideas and strategies as they unfold. Personally I’m really digging this approach, as well as the long-form nature of the performances too… how various ideas interlink or morph into one another.
Yarr… I’m a bit blown away by all this new material; actually I’d just begun to consider that the last live batch might be some of the best stuff they’ve ever released. And now, holy moly, roly poly, there’s more…
i was 20 years old when the INTELLIGENT stuff was huge, so i had to listen tons of that random crap like AE. Luckily there were Stinson, Gerald Donald, I-F and Bunker records.

I have bad eyesight, but I swear I see Triangles in this artwork. Some more complete than other, but definitely triangles.
I see triangles when I listen to their stuff too – only triangles with more dimensions than that. And I mean, that. And ‘that’. And that.

They’re not equilateral so they don’t count.
