I’ll give it a shot.
it’s bad.
It’s bad but pitchfork gave it a 7.8 anyways…probably because it featured St. Vincent, who’s probably on some kind of payola retainer to boost anything she appears on. I can’t believe the Chemical Brothers are still using Q-tip for vocals. At least get some ASAP guy or Birdman’s latest Lil Wayne clone. No one wants to hear Q-tip’s bullshit in 2015, OK, it just makes the shit sound dated as fuck.
Really? Q-Tip has more talent and creativity in his excrement than Lil Wayne, Birdman or ASAP. Thank you Tom and Ed for keeping it classy and not seeking out moronic hip-hop collaborators.
Q-tip keeps it classy? When he’s making homophobic tracks attacking gays? Or when he’s making racist anti-white tracks? Or rapping about how he’s a cheap ass who doesn’t tip? And creative? Really? Still trying to eat off his tired old 90s flow? Q-tip is fucking awful. Of all the guys in ATCQ Q-tip is the lamest, it’s too bad he’s the one still out trying to grub money off his washed up career…sort of like that Shabazz Palaces wanker, weakest guy in Digable Planets, but then maybe his lack of taste and class is why he didn’t retire gracefully like his fellow group members and is still trying to cash in.
Whew, some serious bashing here today. Butterfly (the lead in Digable Planets, not the weakest, he was Digable Planets) and his creation Shabazz Palaces is the most innovative, most talented rapper in the biz. Yes, he plays small clubs, not packed stadiums sponsored by corporate giants Budweizer, and he is intelligent, making intelligent electronic/hip hop/rap. Kanye and J.Z don’t even come closet to this guy. One guy, his laptop, and the other guy playing bongos and other percussions. Shabazz Palaces: the best in the biz. Go back and listen to your Digable Planets records (two of them) that is Butterfly handling the lead vocals and probably all of the instruments. You don’t have to sell out to Budwiezer to the the best.
Boomzy.
If he’s so intelligent why is Shabazz Palaces like a lobotomized version of Digable Planets? None of the things that made Digable Planets cool are present in Shabazz Palaces. It’s mediocre. This leads me to believe that even though Doodle Bug might have claimed credit for everything in Digable Planets for himself, some other people were responsible for making them as great as they were. Or maybe the guy just smoked away his brain and this is all he has left. It’s not terrible, but nothing special. Still, I’d rather the Chemical Brothers hired him for a guest spot than Q-tip. It’s too bad, the last Chemical Brothers album seemed to be going in a new and good direction. This album is just backsliding to old formulas.
Une jolie merde!
unless they happen to be back with another one of those block rockin’ beats, u can count me the hell out.
fuck society
LOL, you are a smart person interested in progressive music, very cool, but I am disappointed in your assessment of Shabazz Palaces. The first tow E.P.’s they came out with around 2010 are true gems, ‘Of Light’ and ‘Shabazz Palaces almost albums in themselves. I saw these guys at The Echo in L.A., it was the best show I have ever seen, truly amazing. Yes, gone are the funky beats and jazzy arrangements from The Digables, but that was in the 80’s-early 90’s. Shabazz is a different animal, in fact, Butterfly has created a new genre of music, electronic hip hop experimental rap. No one else is doing this. The girl in Digables was talented, but the other guy amounted to nothing, check out his 2011 release, pretty bad. The new release, Else Majesty is a masterpiece. Unlike anything else I have ever heard. Amazing shit.
Ok, you’re making me feel guilty for dissing Shabazz Palaces. It’s just Digable Planets was one of my favorite groups of the 90s so I have high expectations I guess. It’s true though, the project is far above pretty much any other 90s rappers still going today. Q-tip hasn’t done anything good since ATCQ, Nas got exponentially worse with every album, even poor ol’ Ghostface finally seems to be running out of steam, although he stayed good way past any of his peers.
But, I have to confess I was rocking out to that “I just fucked your bitch in some gucci flip-flops” this morning and I enjoyed it.
If you guys could stop arguing for a sec you’d realize this album is fine. Fun, accessible songs with pretty lush production. Get your heads out of your asses.
Also Shabazz Palaces is fucking awesome, how are we even contesting this.
jeez, all this time and energy lost to debate about Chemical Brothers.
Chemical Brothers go plastic pop!
Not bad, just mediocre…
