She’s one of the greatest artists of all-time but this album is more or less the same damn song 9 times in a row. Third album in a row I just wasn’t really feelin. I mean, I get it, She’s older now and she isn’t just bout to make Homogenic or Vespertine again, and I respect that. But I’m not tryin to sit down and indulge in dull Nordic ballads either. Also RIP Spike Stent, u will be missed. Bjork, I love u, but ur done. 1st ballot Hall of Famer.
The arrangements here are the closest thing to Homogenic and Vespertine she has ever done. As for the melodies: it’s a breakup album. It makes sense that they’re more minimal, more searching and contemplative.
How is this the same song 9 times? There’s a clear progression in mood from the first three songs (the lead-up to the breakup) through 4-6 (the black hole immediately after) to the last three (coming to terms and healing). Her lyrics and vocals are also much more raw than on earlier ballads. How can anyone think this is “dull”?
I’m feeling this one a lot more than Volta and Biophilia. Perfect music for late night January walks.
approach this one with a little patience and you will be rewarded. there are some really thrilling and sublime moments and the production goes a good job of referencing bjork’s sonic palette while pushing in a few new directions. not every track is solid gold and some of the breakup lyrics are kind of grating but it’s definitely better than volta or biophilia.

I agree with you. She’s been doing the same record for the last 15 years.

Definitely not the summit of her career, but a good album though.
Besides… According to the cover, instead of “Vulnicura”, this record should have been entitled “Vulvacura”.
